Crimes related to the abuse of addictive substances

Crime related to substance abuse This thesis focuses on the issue of crime related to substance abuse and, in particular, on the issue of relationship between property crime recidivism and drug use. Drug use is widely recognised as a known criminogenic factor. The relationship between drug use and crime in general has been the subject of many research studies and scientific papers in the past. Property crime recidivism in relation to drug use is a similarly problematic issue. The successful reduction of recidivism rate is usually considered as evidence of effective criminal justice policy. Alongside this, property crime represents a significant proportion of total crime. Moreover, property crime is characterised by a higher recidivism rate than other types of crime. In practice, there are often visible signs of a possible link between these phenomena. A closer examination of the issue of property crime recidivism in relation to drug use raises many questions. Is there a relationship between these phenomena? And if so, is this relationship reflected enough in the interventions used to reduce recidivism? Crime in Czech media: Image of crime in Mladá fronta Dnes and Právo newpapers

Diploma thesis "Crime in Czech media: Image of crime in Mladá fronta Dnes and Právo newspapers" tries to map way and development of crime presentation in print media in the years of 1996 and 2006, using a content analysis. In the initial, theoretical part, there are the basic hypothesis explained, a description of crime from the sociological perspective and a description of crime history in former Czechoslovakia and in the Czech Republic from 80's of the 20th century until the present time. Further, there is an explanation of relevant chapters from media studies. The pracical part consists of a description of the research method and the portrayal of the research process. It continues with the content analysis itself and the evaluation of collected data. The data are presented in percentage rates and displayed in charts. Acquired rates have been compared with each other and have been searched for further relations amongst them. In the conclusion there is an overall summary of the research findings and their evaluation concerning the basic hypothesis.

The role of social worker in resocializatin of adult offenders of property crime serving a prison sentence

(anglicky): In my thesis, I focus on the role of social workers in prisons and their effect on social rehabilitation of offenders who have committed a property crime. Imprisonment is based on the principle of restorative justice beyond the protection of society to act as an educational element directly to the offender. Individuals who leave prison, are at risk of social exclusion and their possibility of integration into society is due to stigmatization, unstable social environment, housing, employment and other circumstances endangered. The aim of this bachelor thesis is mapping the activities of social workers with adult men in prison. The social worker is a part of the overall examination of the situation of prisoners, social workers are also involved in the processing of a rehabilitation program, which has an impact on an individual's life after release and on recidivism. Social worker cooperate with families, verifies information, etc. The thesis explores the practice of social workers in our country and considering to the practice I suggest changes to improve practice.

Crime in Suburbs: Case Study in the Municipality Sulice

The aim of this work is to determine the perception of crime and feeling of security people who live in the new development in the village Sulice, which is located in suburb of Prague. In this village happened in the past and even now there is a large extent to the process of suburbanization. During the last twenty one years they have moved in to the family home nearly a thousand new residents. And therefore is an option that this suburban location is an attractive target for the perpetrators of property crime. In the village Sulice structured interviews were conducted with local residents and the mayor and deputy mayor. Based on structured interviews, practical part of the thesis is made. Research aims to determine what type of crime, people in the village Sulice most worried about and why. The work focuses on the security measures taken against the perpetrators. The results showed that almost all of respondents feel safe in the village, although half of all respondents had a negative experience with a local crime. Respondents are most worried about property crime. The most effective security measures are dogs and mainly supervision of family members and neighbours. Property criminality and its prevention Bicycle theft in the context of general property criminality Abstract Property criminality is a very serious social pathological phenomenon. In the long run, it accounts for the largest share of total crime by far. Property offenses are the most numerous and also represent the largest amount of police work. Bicycle theft is a common property offense. This diploma thesis deals with both of these phenomena, considering the thefts of bicycles in the context of general property crime. Both phenomena are defined and evaluated in terms of statistical indicators. Here it mainly examines the state and dynamics of both phenomena. In the area of bicycle theft, there are additionally evaluated other statistical data such as theft detection, data on prosecuted persons and the proportion of repeat offenders in committing this type of offense. Subsequently, the causes of property crime are investigated and the causes of bicycle theft are evaluated. The socio-historical context is outlined and then the motives of the perpetrators to commit property offenses and specifically theft of bicycles are analyzed. Education and crime - the economic view

In her thesis, the author addresses the relationship between education and selected types of crime (economic, property and violent crime) in the context of the national economy. The aim of the thesis is to show that the relationship between crime and education is much more complex than it may appear on the basis of current findings and observations and that, besides education, the criminal career of an offender is also significantly influenced by his/her family background and, therefore, it is appropriate to include this factor into the analysis. The analytical section of the thesis is divided into two separate parts. The first part, which deals with the phenomenon of crime in general, describes the dependency of individual crime types, education and family background by means of tables and diagrams showing percentages of individual variables and using contingency tables and correlation tables. The analysis confirms that there is a significant relationship between crime and the combination of education and family background. This hypothesis, however, manifests itself only in respect of certain types of family background, namely the backgrounds described as "working class" and "intelligentsia".
